Electrophoresis

The lab technique that is used to separate DNA into small pieces. It is done using DC electricity.(+-) The smaller that the pieces of DNA are, the further they will travel in the box toward the opposite electrode. This result is a "striped" DNA pattern dependent upon the size of the DNA fragments. You have probably seen it on TV. The DNA is cut with restriction enzymes that are specific for certain base pair codes. Electrophoresis is used to prove paternity suits and as evidence in many trials.
